First Aid - Put on respirator, remove from concentration, remove all clothing, treat for shock, call doctor
Effects same as for Vapour
First Aid - If face not affected, put on respirator, remove from concentration if this can be done very quickly. Dab off liquid, dealing with wounds first. Remove all clothing and scrub all over with soap and water. If liquid in eyes, wash out with water
If symptoms under Vapour appear, call doctor
If contaminated food swallowed, induce immediate vomiting
Blister Mustard
  • Persistent
  • Light yellow to dark brown oily liquid
  • Vapour invisible, smells of garlic, mustard, onions or horseradish
  • Soaks readily into clothing
After 12 hrs. Redness of skin, blisters, hard cough, loss of voice
Up to 24 hrs. Irritation and swelling of eyes
First Aid - Put on respirator, remove from gas, remove all clothing, scrub body with soap and water. Wash out eyes with water or salt and water
After 1 hr. Severe inflammation of eyes
After 2 hrs. Redness of skin
After 12 hrs. Blistering of skin
First Aid - Wash out affected eyes with plenty of water or salt solution. Put on respirator. Dab liquid off skin, apply bleach cream and wash off after 2 mins.; alternatively, scrub with soap and water. Remove any affected clothing
Lewisite
  • Persistent
  • Liquid usually brown
  • Vapour invisible, smells strongly of geraniums
  • Absorbed readily by skin
  • Easily destroyed by water or alkaline solutions
Immediate irritation of nose and eyes. Some reddening of skin and perhaps blistering Damage likely to eyes and lungs
First Aid - As for Mustard Gas
In eyes, immediate pain and spasm On skin, as for Mustard Gas, but blistering fairly rapid
First Aid - As for Mustard Gas
Choking Chlorine
  • Non-persistent
  • Vapour smells of bleach powder; is greenish
Immediate coughing and watering of eyes, pain in chest; lung damage from large doses
First Aid - Put on respirator, remove from concentration. Treat for shock, give hot sweet tea
 
Phosgene
  • Non-persistent
  • Vapour smells of musty hay; invisible
Effects like Chlorine, but far more toxic
First Aid - As for Chlorine. Although victim may say he feels well after a period of recovery, he must be kept at rest, for lung damage may develop in about 24 hrs.
 
Diphosgene
  • Semi-persistent
  • Liquid colourless
  • Vapour invisible; smells like Phosgene
Effects like Chlorine, but more toxic
First Aid - As for Phosgene
In eyes, vigorous watering and spasm
First Aid - Wash out eyes with plenty of water
Tear CAP
  • Non-persistant
  • Vapour invisible, smells of floor polish
Immediate watering of eyes; perhaps some prickling of skin
First Aid - Put on respirator, remove from concentration. Rapid recovery without treatment

KSK
  • Persistent
  • Liquid dark brown
  • Vapour invisible, fruity smell
Immediate watering of eyes, but no prickling of skin
First Aid - As for CAP
In eyes, profuse watering and spasm
First Aid - Wash out with water or salt solution
BBC
  • Persistent
  • Liquid brown
  • Vapour invisible, smell s faintly pungent
Same as CAP

First Aid - Put on respirator, remove from concentration. No treatment needed, despite increase of effects after removal from concentration
