The Public Record Office

The National Archives (TNA, formerly the Public Record Office or PRO) is situated at Kew in Surrey, and is the UK's National Archives where documents from Government departments are released into the public domain.

The holdings therefore include many military documents that are relative to the development of NBC protection equipment, and include things such as Porton Down Technical Reports, reports on foreign equipment, papers compiled by respirator designers, technical specifications for respirator components, UK and Allied intelligence reports and so on.

Early in 2001, I began the long trawl through the TNA's holdings using PROCAT, the online catalogue. The result was a list of 4-5000 useful documents, which I've barely managed to scratch the surface of, despite many visits to Kew.

Are you conducting research into chemical warfare-related material at TNA or any other archive? If so, I'd be interested to hear from you!
