Notes: This booklet was devised as a 'householder's handbook' advising what to do if war breaks out and how to establish and equip a refuge room. It is possible that this booklet was originally intended to be published as Air Raid Precautions Handbook No.1, with the title 'Air Raid Precautions in the Home'. The General Civilian Respirator is described, as are procedures to be carried out during an air raid, fire precautions and basic first aid. The booklet was first issued on a limited scale to those involved in A.R.P. schemes in March 1938 and was later delivered free of charge to every house in Britain the following October.
